The last 24 hours

Whew!  Things have been happening fast and furious.  On Wednesday night we got to see Hime, but forgot to bring the camera.  Hubby will see her on Saturday while I am at Crafty Feast, and he should be getting us some more shots then.  Hime is growing fast and furious, and boy can she play!  At a little over 5 weeks old, she came barraling across the floor where I was sitting and managed to stuff my whole big toe inside her mouth!  She is teething, and let me tell you, they are sharp.

So I knew that Chris’ parents were coming to visit, then I found out that they were coming yesterday!  That meant a mess of cleaning for Chris while I’m working on last minute earrings for Crafty Feast.  So Thursday morning I get up and clean the beads I made on Wednesday, ready to make earrings.  I found some I had made late last year, but they really needed cleaning and I couldn’t find my polishing cloth.  Well, that meant a trip to the Mercantile Store, where I could also get coffee for Chris’ mom, and stop at the bakery and order pastries.  Then on to the grocery for some skim milk for Chris’ dad.  We don’t keep milk in the house, just half and half for my coffee.

I pull into the grocery lot, and the nice guy in the truck next to me pointed out that my tire was low.  Now I know it wasn’t that way when I left the Mercantile, but it was 2 minutes later at the grocery!  Do I have my cell phone with me?  Nope.  So I go inside to try and find a pay phone, but they have taken them all out!  The BiLo people were nice enough to let me try and call Chris with their phone, but he wasn’t inside to pick it up.  A really nice guy who works at the BiLo wasn’t on shift yet, so he came out to help me with the tire.  Who says there are no more nice guys!  So he ended up trying out a can of temporary tire inflator that Chris had put in my spare tire area, and when he did the valve stem came off in his hand.  Ok, so that isn’t going to get driven anywhere!  Back into the BiLo to try Chris again, but no luck.  So I go back out to the car to see if I can put on the spare.  Did you know there are no directions on how to use the jack?  While I’m trying to figure it out, here comes the nice guy, with one of his friends, and they change my tire.  How sweet!

I make it home, and have to go to Sears to get it fixed because the tire is still under warrenty.  Keep in mind I’m trying to get ready for the show too.  I check my email, and find an invitation to appear on the Morning Show for WLTX.  Woo hoo, free advertising for Crafty Feast and my jewelry!  But I have to be in Columbia at 5:30…. AM.   Ewwww.  But free advertising is free advertising.  That does mean that I still need to get the tire fixed, finish my earrings, and get up at 2 AM so I can make it to the studio in time.

I get home from the tire place, and I am totally frazzled.  It is almost 4 in the afternoon, I still have to make earrings, and Chris’ parents are on their way!  Ack!  I start work on the earrings, and Judy and Brian arrive.  I think at this point everyone can see I’m just a teeny bit stressed, so it is suggested that instead of driving back and forth to Columbia 2 days in a row (about a 3 hour drive) that I stay overnight in Columbia after I do the Morning Show.  Great idea, but that means I have to pack everything for my show and still make earrings!  Thankfully Judy helped me pick out things to display on the show, and helped clean my velvet displays.  I will never again buy black velvet displays.

After much panic, I make it to bed.  Sleep for a while, wake up and check the clock.  We had a big storm, and the power went out, but thankfully Chris got me up.  I even had to shave my legs for the TV show!  I haven’t done that in years.  It turns out that shaving your legs in the shower with a flashlight is a bad idea… you miss lots of spots.  I actually made it to the studio by 5:30 AM today!  I was kind of expecting someone to slather my face with makeup, but there wasn’t any of that.  I just had to wait for my spot, then Liz (another jewelry designer) and I were on!  We got about 2 minutes of air time, and they wouldn’t let us say anything fun at all.  At least my lower legs were on tv, so I didn’t shave my legs in vain. I have to buy a DVD with the show on it, so I won’t have that to show you for a while yet.

We finished up about 7:30 AM, and I headed for the Sharaton Hotel with some vague hopes of having a breakfast that would last me till check in time… 3 PM.  But Tracy was so nice at the Sharaton!  He found me an open room, and let me check in right away.  That meant I actually got to sleep for a while after I got something to eat.  Woo hoo!  I feel so much better for having a nap.  I went wandering around looking for a bank so I could get $5 and $10 bills for change for Crafty Feast tomorrow.  Turns out the stupid banks here won’t help me because I don’t have an account.  ARGH!  I end up at this little shop to get a cheap pair of sunglasses, since at 2 AM you don’t need them and I forgot mine at home (along with the camera).  They reccomended that I go to the pawn shop next door to get change.  They were nice enough to help me.

Then onward to find a coffee shop!  Turns out there isn’t a local coffee shop in downtown Columbia, but I did find the Friday Festival with arts and crafts, and got to meet another Crafty Feast person.  She makes some amazing wire wrapped pendants.  By the time I got back to the hotel I had blisters from wearing Birks that I thought were broken in but actually were not.  Owie!  Now I have one more bracelet to make, and a few other little things, then on to Crafty Feast tomorrow!
