I promised you all better pictures when my hubby got back to take them. Here they are! No longer fuzzy like before, and now you can see where the closeups came from. Maybe between putting in new pantry cabinets, and installing the medicine cabinets to replace the mirror that fell, I can get him to take pictures of the artist trading cards (ATCs) that I’ve been making. Now I’m terrible at names, and these pieces need one since they are going to (hopefully) get into the show, so if you have names for them feel free to share!

This one was made with some wonderful silk fabric I found at a discount store. First I used green chalk ink and a cotton ball to color the white box green, and then heat set it.

Then it was on to the fabric! I cut out a piece I thought would be a bit big, then trimmed it once I saw how it wrapped around the box. You are probably wondering what I used to get the fabric to stay attached to the box. The answer is Paverpol! Here is what Paverpol USA says about it:

“The textiles and decoration hardener par excellence! Dip natural materials, such as textiles, in Paverpol. Drape or wrap the material around a wire figure or other armature and leave it to dry. Paverpol dries fast, but slowly enough to allow plenty of working time. After it has hardened, you have created a beautiful decoration or sculpture, which can be used indoors as well as outdoors. It is also possible to combine Paverpol with paper, silk, chamois leather, self-hardening clay, polystyrene foam, dried flowers, wood, plaster, pottery, etc.”

I’ve used paverpol in lots of applications, including the dress on my sculpture “Titania waits for no man”. Her head is glass, the log is bamboo, there is fimo underneath for weight, and the moss is silk rods. My friend at Larkspur Funny Farms does a great job of dying the rods.

If you aren’t familiar with ATC’s, they are Artist Trading Cards. The one rule that makes an ATC derives from their origins: the dimensions of the ATC must be 2.5″x3.5″. They are not for sale, they are for trading. If you have a piece of artwork the same size as an ATC but want to sell it, it is called an ACEO instead. (artist card editions and originals)

I wanted to show you some pictures, so I went to ArtFire and did a search for ACEO’s. They are at the bottom of this post, and clicking on one will bring you to the auction site where you can get a better view of them. As you can see, they don’t even have to be made out of paper!

In any case, I found these cute little white metal tins at the Mercantile Store in Pendleton, and decided to decorate them. This one I colored with chalk inks and heat set them. If you don’t heat set them they will smear forever! The base colors are blue and purple, with a darker purple on top. Each layer needs to be heat set individually. (ask me how I know) Then I took some cool gears I had and put them on too, just for a little added texture. I’ll be showing you more boxes later this week!
