Renee and I got together yesterday and picked out the last of the paper to make her wedding invitations with. We had made the centers with the cute little goats about a week ago. The background and tree are torn paper. The little goats were all individually cut out. The house is the same pink with a chimney that Renee’s house is, and it has a tin roof too! We made 19 of them, for a total of about 8 hours of work for each of us. But it was loads of fun!

I’m sure I’ll be making more sunflower cards in the future, but this is the last one for now. I cut out 2 circles and snipped them into petals for this one. It is kind of hard to tell from the picture, but one set of petals is on top of the next one. When I finished this one, it looked really flat to me. Then I got out my yellow marker and went to work on it! I think it really brightened things up to color on the petals. Not all of them, just streaks out to the tips. If I do this again, I will definitely be coloring before I glue it to the card. Talk about nerve wracking!

This is my 3rd go a the sunflower challenge. I decided to tear the flowers instead of cutting anything. The great part about the petal paper is that it is 2 colors, a light yellow on one side and a dark yellow on the other. So when I tore out the outer petals, I got the ring of light yellow for free! To me, this one looks just a tad bit flat, so I’m going to pull up the edges of the petals to give it a bit of dimension.

Ok, so cutting out all those little petals was a bit of a hassle. And I’m sure that no one wants to pay for 2 hours of my time so they can send someone a sunflower card. So I went looking for ways to shorten the time it takes to make one, without loosing that cool torn paper use up all the scraps theme. These flowers were my friend Renee’s idea. Each one is a circle of paper that has notches cut into it for the petals. Then the petals were rolled up around the center to give it a bit of dimension. The sky isn’t so dark in this one, but I probably should have torn the paper up into smaller pieces.

I took a class on making torn paper cards at the Mercantile, one of my fave places to go. It is a great way to use up those little pieces of leftover paper from making cards. You know how you always have little bits left from projects, and they are too big to throw away, and too small to use in a standard way? This is a fun way to play with them.

I was kind of insane on my first one. I cut out each petal flower individually, and glued them to the back of the center of the flower. It took me 2 hours to make this one. Over the next few days I’ll be posting 3 more on the same theme, so keep looking.
