Hair!!!

I used to have very short straight hair.  Then I started growing it out for locks of love, which is a great group that makes wigs out of regular people hair for kids going through chemo, or having other issues that deprive them of hair.

Locks of Love Mission Statement:

Our mission is to return a sense of self, confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children. The children receive hair prostheses free of charge or on a sliding scale, based on financial need.

Permed hair is ok for Locks of Love, even dyed hair.  Just not bleached hair, since that weakens the hair so much they can’t make a good wig from it.  They even take gray hair!

Over Christmas I got a Hair Bear perm.  I wonder how many people will recognize me at the conference today?

My sister in law Daphne wanted to see what I looked like with hair.  For those of you who have met me, you know I prefer it about 1/4″ long.  It is cool, easy to care for, and I never get bed head.  Well, I’m letting it grow out, and I detest it.  If one more person tells me how much nicer I look with longer hair I might just go postal.  Look at the horrible bed head I get now!

You might wonder why I have hair (and am growing it longer) if I don’t like it.  Well, I’m going up for tenure next year (an academic way of saying better job security) and the only people who get to vote on my tenure are full professors…. i.e. older people who are bothered by incredibly short hair.  *sigh*

So I’m trying to figure out ways of keeping it out of my eyes, especially when I’m making glass beads.  Fire and long hair don’t mix!  In my case, sometimes fire and short hair don’t mix.   I’m thinking bandanas.  But not the standard blue and red ones that people use for kleenex (eewwww), I want a neat one.    Here is one I found on Artfire in TyeDyeJudy’s Store.

Or maybe I could get this cute skull fabric from Lunamia on Artfire, and make my own. In any case, I need to do something with it before I go seriously insane!
